FIU grading scale
FIU's scale (Fall 2016 to present) has no C-, D+ or D-. A non-attendance failure (F0) counts the same as an F.

Leave out pass/fail, satisfactory/unsatisfactory, withdrawal and incomplete marks. They carry no grade points on this scale.
How your FIU GPA is calculated
GPA = total quality points ÷ total graded credit hours, where quality points for a course = grade points × credit hours. For a new cumulative GPA: (current GPA × hours so far + this term’s quality points) ÷ (hours so far + this term’s graded hours).
Repeated courses
FIU Policy 1360.030 says undergraduates can use grade forgiveness no more than three times, and only for courses in which they "received a grade lower than a C (2.00)". Only the final grade on the repeated course counts in the GPA. Both attempts must be at FIU, with the same course, grading option and credits.
Retake example
A student has a 2.50 GPA over 30 hours, and one of those courses was a 3-credit F. They retake it and earn a B+. If the policy applies, the F’s 3 hours and 0 points come out of the prior totals. The new cumulative GPA is 2.833. If both attempts counted, it would be 2.575.

Total: 43.02 quality points ÷ 13 hours = 3.309 semester GPA. If the student already had a 3.20 GPA over 45 hours, the new cumulative GPA would be (144 + 43.02) ÷ (45 + 13) = 3.224.
