Pondicherry University publishes its CGPA conversion on the Conversion of Grade to Percentage page, with separate documents for students admitted up to 2009-10 and from 2010-11 onwards. This calculator follows the 2010-11-onwards document for the CBCS Masters' programmes. It explains that letter grades do not correspond to specific marks, but for comparison purposes CGPA 6.0/10.0 is equal to 60% and 5.0/10.0 to 50%, and the enclosed table lists every CGPA from 5.01 (50.10%) upward on the same basis — in other words, percentage = CGPA × 10.
The same document sets the classes. A CGPA of 5.0 is the minimum to pass, 6.0 and above is First Class, 5.0 up to 6.0 is Second Class, and 9.0 and above is Distinction for students who did not fail any course they took.

Rules from the Pondicherry University — Conversion of grade into percentage (CBCS, Masters, admitted 2010-11 onwards):
- Applies to students admitted from the academic year 2010-11 onwards under the CBCS regulations for Masters' programmes.
- CGPA is the weighted average of the points secured in all papers registered, reported out of 10.0.
- Minimum CGPA to pass: 5.0. First Class: 6.0 and above. Second Class: 5.0 to below 6.0. Distinction: 9.0 and above without failing any course.
- For conversion, CGPA 6.0/10.0 equals 60% and 5.0/10.0 equals 50%; the enclosed table lists every CGPA from 5.01 (50.10%) upward in the same ratio.

For a CGPA of 7.26: 7.26 × 10 = 72.60%.
Going the other way, a target of 60% needs a CGPA of 6.0000, so you need at least 6.00 on your grade sheet.
