Western University Average Calculator

Western University in London, Ontario records grades as percentages. Students usually talk about their average rather than a GPA. Enter each course with its final percentage and its course weight (0.5 for a half course, 1.0 for a full course). The calculator gives your weighted average and the letter for each course.

The letters come from Western’s university-wide grade descriptors, which Senate approved and which are printed on the back of transcripts: A+ is 90–100, A is 80–89, B is 70–79, C is 60–69, D is 50–59 and F is below 50. Western has no plus or minus grades except A+, so an 89 and an 80 are both an A. For an Ontario medical school application, use the OMSAS conversion instead. It assigns a 4.0-scale value to each percentage band.

Default example: 78, 84, 88 and 69 in half courses plus 73 in a full course. That gives 232.5 weighted points over 3.0 course weights, an average of 77.50%, which is a B.
