Percentage to GPA Calculator
To turn percentages into a GPA, convert each course to a letter grade and its grade points first, then average the points by credits. Averaging the percentages and dividing by 25 gives a different number, so it is not how US schools calculate GPA. Enter your courses with their final percentages and credits. The calculator uses the College Board conversion (93–100 = A = 4.0, 90–92 = A− = 3.7, and so on, with 65 as the lowest D) or a common 10-point scale where D− is 60–62.
Formula: GPA = Σ(grade points × credits) ÷ Σ credits. The table shows the letter and points for each course, so you can check your transcript line by line. If your school prints its own percentage-to-letter scale, use it; the scale is the only thing that changes.
Worked example: 91% (A−, 3.7), 84% (B, 3.0), 88% (B+, 3.3) and 76% (C, 2.0) over 4, 4, 3 and 3 credits give 42.7 quality points ÷ 14 credits = 3.05. The same courses average 85.1%, and 85.1 ÷ 25 = 3.41, which overstates the GPA by 0.36.

- Turn each percentage into a letter, then grade pointsCollege Board scale: 93–100 = A (4.0), 90–92 = A− (3.7), 87–89 = B+ (3.3) … 65–66 = D (1.0), below 65 = F.
- Weight by creditsQuality points = 42.70 over 14 credits.
- GPA42.70 ÷ 14 = 3.05.
- Why not just divide by 25?Dividing the average percentage by 25 gives 3.41. US schools do not convert that way: every grade from 93 to 100 is worth 4.0, so the per-course method above is the one admissions offices use.

Frequently asked questions
- What GPA is 85 percent?
- On the College Board scale 85% is a B, which is 3.0. On a plain 10-point scale (80–89 = B) it is also 3.0.
- What GPA is 90 percent?
- 90% is an A− (3.7) on most US scales. You need 93% or more for a full 4.0 A.
- Can I convert my average percentage directly to GPA?
- Only roughly. A GPA comes from grade points per course, so two students with the same average percentage can have different GPAs. Use the course-by-course table above for an accurate result.
- How do I convert Indian or other international percentages to GPA?
- Indian, Nepali and other national percentages use different scales, so a US chart does not apply. WES and similar services convert them with country-specific tables. See the CGPA and country calculators linked below.
