Osmania University SGPA & CGPA Calculator
Osmania University uses two different grade scales, and picking the wrong one changes your SGPA. Engineering students under the B.E. (CBCS) rules of 2018-19 need 90% for an S (10); the steps below are A 80–89, B 70–79, C 60–69, D 50–59 and E 40–49. Degree students in the UG choice-based credit system (B.A., B.Sc., B.Com.) reach the top grade earlier — O (10) starts at 85 — but the middle is narrower: A is 70–84, B 60–69, C 55–59, D 50–54 and E 40–49. This page has a calculator for each.
In both schemes the SGPA is the sum of grade points times credits divided by total credits, and it is only calculated when every subject of the semester is passed. The CGPA weights each semester's SGPA by its total credits. The UG report's worked example gives 200 credit points ÷ 24 credits = 8.33 for a semester and 1,269 ÷ 145 = 8.75 for six semesters; the CGPA tool below is preloaded with those six semesters and returns the same 8.75.
For B.E. students the result shows the division from clause 7.1. Osmania has not published a general CGPA-to-percentage formula for these schemes, so no conversion is shown.

How Osmania University calculates SGPA and CGPA
Rules from the Osmania University B.E. Rules and Regulations 2018-19 (CBCS):
- B.E.: SGPA = Σ(letter grade point × credits) / Σ credits, to two decimals, calculated only when all subjects of the semester are passed (6.2 a).
- B.E.: CGPA = Σ(SGPA × total credits) / Σ total credits, to two decimals, calculated only when the credits earned equal the credits prescribed up to the last semester appeared (6.2 b). A CGPA of 5.00 is needed for the degree.
- UG CBCS (B.A./B.Sc./B.Com.): the same two formulas with the O–F scale above; SGPA is computed only if every paper is passed with at least E. The university's own example: 200 credit points ÷ 24 credits = 8.33, and six semesters of 1,269 credit points over 145 credits = 8.75.
- B.E. division (7.1): 7.5 and above First Class with Distinction, 6.5–7.49 First Class, 5.5–6.49 Second Class, 5.0–5.49 Pass Class.

Worked example
The SGPA example loaded above has 8 courses (3 credits at A, 3 credits at B, 3 credits at S and so on) worth 19 credits and 165 credit points, so the SGPA is 165 ÷ 19 = 8.68.
For the CGPA, the example semesters (8.33 on 24 credits; 8.83 on 24 credits; 8.52 on 25 credits; 8.38 on 26 credits; 9 on 24 credits; 9.55 on 22 credits) give Σ(SGPA × credits) = 1268.82 over 145 credits, so the CGPA is 8.75.
