HSC GPA Calculator
The HSC (and Alim) GPA uses the same 5.00 grade-point scale as SSC: A+ = 5.00 for 80% or more, A = 4.00, A− = 3.50, B = 3.00, C = 2.00, D = 1.00 for 33–39%, and F below 33%. At HSC most subjects have two papers (for example Physics 1st and 2nd paper) and are graded on the combined 200 marks. Enter each subject once with its combined marks, or simply enter the letter grade from your mark sheet.
GPA = (sum of compulsory subjects’ grade points + the 4th subject’s points above 2.00) ÷ number of compulsory subjects, capped at 5.00. Compulsory subjects are usually Bangla, English and ICT plus the three group subjects. An F in any compulsory subject means no GPA is awarded.
Worked example (default): Bangla A (4.00), English B (3.00), ICT A+ (5.00), Physics A− (3.50), Chemistry A (4.00) and Higher Mathematics A+ (5.00) total 24.50 over 6 subjects = 4.08. Biology as the 4th subject with an A adds 4.00 − 2.00 = 2.00, so 26.50 ÷ 6 = 4.42.

- Add the grade points of the compulsory subjectsΣ = 24.50 over 6 subjects
- 4th (optional) subject bonusOnly the part above 2.00 counts: 4.00 − 2 = 2.00
- Divide by the number of compulsory subjects(24.50 + 2.00) ÷ 6 = 4.417.
- ResultGPA 4.42 (exact value 4.417).
Frequently asked questions
- How is GPA calculated with the 4th subject?
- Add the grade points of the compulsory subjects. From the 4th (optional) subject only the points above 2.00 are added, so an A+ (5.00) adds 3.00 and a B (3.00) adds 1.00. Divide by the number of compulsory subjects. The result is capped at 5.00.
- What happens if I get an F?
- An F in any compulsory subject means you fail, and no GPA is awarded. An F in the 4th subject does not fail you; it simply adds nothing.
- What are the grade points for each mark range?
- 80–100 = A+ (5.00), 70–79 = A (4.00), 60–69 = A− (3.50), 50–59 = B (3.00), 40–49 = C (2.00), 33–39 = D (1.00), 0–32 = F (0.00).
- Is HSC GPA used for university admission?
- Yes. Public university admission tests in Bangladesh usually set minimum SSC and HSC GPAs (separately and combined). Many also give marks for GPA in the admission score. Check each university’s circular.
