OMSAS GPA Calculator
Ontario medical schools that use OMSAS convert every university grade to the OMSAS 4.0 scale. On that scale 90–100% is 4.0, 85–89% is 3.9, 80–84% is 3.7, and so on down to 50–52% at 0.7. OMSAS then averages the converted grades, weighted by course credit. Enter your percentages and credit weights, for example 0.5 for a one-term course and 1.0 for a full-year course where your university uses those weights. The calculator gives your OMSAS cumulative GPA.
The OMSAS scale is generous at the top: a 4.0 needs only 90%, and 85% gets 3.9. A strong percentage average therefore often converts to a higher GPA than on a US scale. Letter-graded courses are converted from the letter your university prints, using that university’s own OMSAS conversion table, so only percentage grades are handled here.
Worked example: 88% (3.9), 79% (3.3), 84% (3.7) and 92% (4.0) in half-credit courses plus a 76% (3.0) full-year course give 10.45 weighted points ÷ 3.0 credits = 3.48. Some schools also compute a weighted GPA or use only certain years, but they start from the same converted values.

- Convert each percentage with the OMSAS scale90–100 = 4.0, 85–89 = 3.9, 80–84 = 3.7, 77–79 = 3.3, 73–76 = 3.0 … 50–52 = 0.7, below 50 = 0.

Frequently asked questions
- Does OMSAS round percentages?
- Percentages are converted as whole numbers from your transcript. If your transcript shows 89.6, the university’s official grade is what counts. This calculator rounds to the nearest whole percent before converting.
- What is a competitive OMSAS GPA?
- Ontario medical schools are highly competitive. Applicants admitted to most of them have OMSAS GPAs around 3.8–3.9 or higher, and some schools use weighted GPAs or the last two years only.
- How are half-credit and full-credit courses weighted?
- By their credit value: a full-year course counts twice as much as a one-term course. Enter 0.5 or 1.0 (or your university’s credit units) in the Credit column.
- Is OMSAS GPA the same as AMCAS GPA?
- No. AMCAS (US schools) uses its own conversion. See the Med School GPA Calculator for AMCAS-style calculations.
