York University GPA Calculator (9-Point Scale)
York University in Toronto grades on a 9-point scale, from A+ (9) to F (0). It also has an E grade (40–49%, marginally failing), which is worth 1 point. Enter each course as a final percentage or a letter, with its credits (usually 3 or 6). The calculator gives your credit-weighted grade point average out of 9.
York’s Undergraduate Calendar says all averages used for eligibility to proceed and graduate are credit-weighted. York reports two of them: a sessional average for one session and a cumulative average for all of your courses. So a 6-credit course counts twice as much as a 3-credit course. Enter one session’s courses for a sessional GPA, or all of them for a cumulative GPA.
Default example: 82% (A, 8) and B+ (7) in 3-credit courses, 74% (B, 6) in a 6-credit course, 67% (C+, 5) in a 3-credit course and 91% (A+, 9) in a 6-credit course. That gives 150 points over 21 credits, a GPA of 7.14, which is between B+ and A.

Frequently asked questions
- What is a good GPA at York University?
- A 7 is a B+ average and an 8 is an A average. Honours programs and graduate schools set their own minimums, so check the requirement for your program.
- How do I convert a York GPA to a 4.0 scale?
- York does not publish a 4.0 conversion. Schools and application services that need one convert your transcript with their own tables, so dividing by 9 and multiplying by 4 is only a rough guide.
- Is an E a pass at York?
- No. E (40–49%) is described as marginally failing, but it still carries 1 grade point, so it lowers your average less than an F.
- Are 6-credit courses weighted more?
- Yes. York averages are credit-weighted, so a 6-credit course counts twice as much as a 3-credit course.
