JNTUA SGPA & CGPA Calculator (R20)
JNTU Anantapur's R20 regulations use an absolute ten-point scale: S (Superior) for 90 and above, then A, B, C and D for each ten marks, E (Pass Average, 5) for 40–49, and F below 40. The SGPA is Σ(Ci × Gi) / ΣCi, and R20 explicitly includes subjects with zero grade points in it, so a fail counts against you until it is cleared. The CGPA weights each semester's SGPA by its credits.
The percentage question has a JNTUA-specific answer. In a letter dated 4 September 2021, the Registrar certified that because the university awards a letter grade along with the marks secured in every course, there is no requirement of a formula for converting CGPA to percentage — the percentage may be calculated from the marks secured in all the semesters. R20 also awards the class of degree on that percentage of marks, not on the CGPA.
So this page has three tools: SGPA, CGPA, and an aggregate-marks calculator that adds your marks obtained and maximum marks semester by semester and shows the class — 70% and above First Class with Distinction, 60% First Class, 50% Second Class, 40% Pass Class.

How JNTUA calculates SGPA and CGPA
Rules from the JNTUA B.Tech R20 Academic Regulations, Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Anantapur:
- After each course is evaluated for 100 marks, the marks are converted to a letter grade on the absolute scale above (section 18).
- SGPA = Σ(Ci × Gi) / ΣCi; subjects with zero grade points are included. CGPA = Σ(Ci × Si) / ΣCi over all semesters; both rounded to two decimals.
- The class of the degree is awarded on the percentage of marks secured (section 19): 70% and above First Class with Distinction, 60–69.99% First Class, 50–59.99% Second Class, 40–49.99% Pass Class.
- JNTUA's Registrar has certified (04.09.2021) that no formula is needed to convert CGPA to percentage; the percentage is calculated from the marks secured in all semesters.
SGPA = Σ(Ci × GPi) ÷ ΣCi
CGPA = Σ(SGPAj × Cj) ÷ ΣCj
JNTUA grade points
| Grade | Grade point | Marks | Meaning |
|---|---|---|---|
| S | 10 | 90 and above | Superior |
| A | 9 | 80 to below 90 | Excellent |

| Ab | 0 | Absent |
Class by percentage of marks
| Percentage of marks | Class / band |

| 60 to below 70 | First Class |
| 50 to below 60 | Second Class |
| 40 to below 50 | Pass Class |
Worked example
The SGPA example loaded above has 8 courses (3 credits at A, 3 credits at B, 3 credits at S and so on) worth 19.5 credits and 169.5 credit points, so the SGPA is 169.5 ÷ 19.5 = 8.69.
For the CGPA, the example semesters (8.41 on 19.5 credits; 8.02 on 19.5 credits; 8.63 on 21.5 credits) give Σ(SGPA × credits) = 505.93 over 60.5 credits, so the CGPA is 8.36.
For the percentage, the example memos total 1865 out of 2350 marks, i.e. 79.36%.
