NIT Kurukshetra SGPA & CGPA Calculator

NIT Kurukshetra's grading scale is short and uneven. According to the institute's own certificate on grade points, CGPA and percentage (Ref. Acad/24/218, 6 February 2024), there are only six letter grades: A+ (Excellent) 10, A (Very Good) 9, B (Good) 8, C (Average) 6, D (Pass) 4 and F (Repeat) 0. There is no grade worth 7 or 5, so dropping from a B to a C costs two full points — twice as much as the step from A to B.

That gap makes the credit weighting important. A C in a 4-credit core course takes 8 credit points off your semester compared with a B, while the same drop in a 1-credit lab costs only 2. The CGPA formula on the certificate is the standard credit-weighted average, CGPA = Σ CiGi / Σ Ci, and an F has to be cleared in the re-appear examination.

Enter your courses to see the credit points row by row. The CGPA tool combines semesters using each semester's credits, and the result also shows the percentage under the institute's CGPA × 9 rule.

How NIT Kurukshetra calculates SGPA and CGPA

Rules from the NIT Kurukshetra grade point and CGPA certificate (Ref. Acad/24/218, 06.02.2024), National Institute of Technology Kurukshetra:

  • CGPA = Σ CiGi / Σ Ci, the credit-weighted average of all grades, where Ci is the credits of the i-th course and Gi the grade point of its letter grade.
  • Only six letter grades are used and the points are not evenly spaced: after B (8) comes C (6) and then D (4). There is no 7 or 5.
  • An F must be cleared in the re-appear examination.
  • The institute's certificate states: the percentage of marks shall be calculated as CGPA multiplied by 9.00.

SGPA = Σ(Ci × GPi) ÷ ΣCi

CGPA = Σ(SGPAj × Cj) ÷ ΣCj

Percentage = CGPA × 9.00

Worked example

The SGPA example loaded above has 7 courses (4 credits at A, 4 credits at B, 4 credits at A+ and so on) worth 21 credits and 178 credit points, so the SGPA is 178 ÷ 21 = 8.48.

For the CGPA, the example semesters (8.29 on 21 credits; 7.95 on 22 credits; 8.4 on 20 credits) give Σ(SGPA × credits) = 516.99 over 63 credits, so the CGPA is 8.21, which is 73.89% under Percentage = CGPA × 9.00.
