MG University SGPA & CGPA Calculator (CSS)
This calculator is for postgraduate and integrated programmes run in Mahatma Gandhi University's own schools and centres in Kottayam under the Revised CSS Regulations (2016 admissions onwards). Those regulations use relative grading on a ten-point scale: O (Outstanding) 10, A+ 9, A 8, B+ 7, B 6, C 5 and P (Pass) 4, with F and Ab carrying nothing. P also has an absolute floor for the project: 40% of the aggregate and 40% separately in the external evaluation.
Clause 11 gives two equivalent ways to get the CGPA: total credit points across all semesters divided by the total required credits, or each semester's SGPA multiplied by its credits, summed and divided by the total credits. The calculator uses the second form. The regulations warn that clearing every semester's minimum SGPA does not guarantee the minimum CGPA for the programme, so weak semesters have to be balanced by stronger ones.
The results show the grade band your CGPA falls in (for example 8.0 to below 9 is A) and the percentage, which clause 11 defines as CGPA × 100 ÷ 10.

How MG University calculates SGPA and CGPA
Rules from the MGU Revised CSS Regulations (2016 admissions onwards) for PG programmes in the university schools, Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam:
- Grading is relative on a ten-point scale (clause 8.6): O, A+, A, B+, B, C, P, F and Ab.
- SGPA = total credit points of the semester ÷ total credits; CGPA = Σ(SGPA × credits of each semester) ÷ Σ credits of all semesters (clause 11.2, 11.3).
- The CGPA formula is printed on the grade card with a note that it can be used to convert grades into mark percentages.
- A minimum SGPA in every semester does not guarantee the minimum CGPA for the programme.

Worked example
The SGPA example loaded above has 5 courses (4 credits at A, 4 credits at A+, 4 credits at B+ and so on) worth 18 credits and 150 credit points, so the SGPA is 150 ÷ 18 = 8.33.
For the CGPA, the example semesters (8.28 on 18 credits; 7.9 on 18 credits; 8.4 on 18 credits; 8.65 on 18 credits) give Σ(SGPA × credits) = 598.14 over 72 credits, so the CGPA is 8.31, which is 83.10% under Equivalent percentage = CGPA × 100 / maximum CGPA (10), i.e. CGPA × 10.
