Out of 15 Grade Calculator

Enter your points and this calculator turns a score out of 15 into a percentage and a letter grade. It also shows how many more points you needed for the next letter. The formula is score ÷ 15 × 100. For example, 12 out of 15 is 12 ÷ 15 = 0.8, and 0.8 × 100 = 80%, which is a B− on the College Board style scale and a B on a plain 10-point scale.

Short quizzes are often marked out of 15. Each point is worth 6.67%, so a single mistake drops a perfect score to 93.33%, still an A on the College Board style scale, and two mistakes give 86.67%.

On a plain 10-point scale you need 13.5/15 for an A (90%), 12 for a B, 10.5 for a C and 9 for a D. The College Board style scale adds plus and minus grades and moves the D cut-off to 65%, which is 9.75/15. Schools set their own scales, so use the one in your syllabus if it differs. If your test had a different total, for example extra-credit questions, change the ‘Out of’ box and the calculator still works.
