ACT Superscore Calculator

An ACT superscore takes your highest score in each section across all your test dates and averages them into a new composite. On the enhanced ACT (from spring 2025) the composite is the average of English, Math and Reading, and Science is reported separately. On the legacy ACT all four sections count. Choose the version that matches your score reports.

Rounding follows ACT’s rule: average the section scores and round to the nearest whole number, with .5 rounding up. For example, 29 + 28 + 29 = 86, and 86 ÷ 3 = 28.67, which rounds to 29. The calculator also shows your best single-sitting composite, the gain from superscoring and a superscored STEM score (the rounded average of Math and Science).

Worked example: three sittings with best English 29 (June), Math 28 (April) and Reading 29 (February) give 86 ÷ 3 = 28.67, a 29 superscore. The best single test was a 27. Colleges set their own superscoring policies: some superscore, some take your highest single composite, and some ask for all scores.

Frequently asked questions

Do colleges accept ACT superscores?
Many do, but not all. Check each college’s testing policy page. ACT reports a superscore automatically when you have tested more than once.
Does Science count in the ACT superscore?
For the enhanced ACT the composite (and its superscore) uses English, Math and Reading. Science is optional and reported on its own and in the STEM score. Legacy ACT composites include Science.
How is the ACT composite rounded?
To the nearest whole number, with .5 rounding up: an average of 27.5 becomes 28, and 27.49 becomes 27.
Can I mix legacy and enhanced ACT scores?
Policies differ. Some colleges superscore across both formats using the sections they share. Enter the sections from each report and choose the composite rule your college uses.
