KTU SGPA & CGPA Calculator (2019 Scheme)
KTU is one of the few Indian universities that uses half-point grades: between S (10) and P (5.5) there are ten letter grades, so an A is worth 8.5 and a C is worth 6.5. That makes a KTU SGPA noticeably different from a quick average of whole numbers, and it is why this calculator asks for the letter grade exactly as it appears on your grade card.
The calculator follows R6.21 of the B.Tech Regulations 2019: SGPA is the credit-weighted average of the grade points of every course in the semester's curriculum, and failed (F, FE) or incomplete (I) courses stay in the calculation at zero. That rule catches many students out, because a single failed 4-credit course pulls the SGPA down until it is cleared and the grade replaced.
Use the first tool for one semester and the second to combine semesters into a CGPA. Lateral-entry students should leave out semesters 1 and 2, as the regulation requires. Both results also show the equivalent percentage, which KTU now defines simply as CGPA × 10.

How KTU calculates SGPA and CGPA
Rules from the KTU B.Tech Regulations 2019, APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University:
- SGPA = Σ(Ci × GPi) / ΣCi over every course in that semester's curriculum. Failed and incomplete courses are included (with 0 grade points) — R6.21.
- CGPA uses the same formula over all courses up to that semester, failed courses included. For lateral-entry students the first- and second-semester credits are not counted.
- The 2 activity-point credits (R6.23) are required for the degree but are not counted in the CGPA.
- U.O. No. 1584/2023/KTU (29.06.2023) replaced the old conversion 10 × CGPA − 2.5 with 10 × CGPA for the 2019 scheme; U.O. No. 1867/2023/KTU (27.07.2023) applied CGPA × 10 to the 2015 scheme and to all graduates.

Worked example
The SGPA example loaded above has 7 courses (4 credits at A, 4 credits at B+, 3 credits at S and so on) worth 19 credits and 157 credit points, so the SGPA is 157 ÷ 19 = 8.26.
For the CGPA, the example semesters (7.95 on 17 credits; 8.21 on 21 credits; 7.64 on 22 credits) give Σ(SGPA × credits) = 475.64 over 60 credits, so the CGPA is 7.93, which is 79.30% under Percentage = CGPA × 10.

Frequently asked questions
- Are failed subjects included in KTU SGPA?
- Yes. R6.21 says the failed and incomplete courses are also considered in the SGPA calculation, with zero grade points. Once you pass the course, the new grade replaces the F and the SGPA and CGPA are recalculated.
- What grade point is an A in KTU?
- 8.5. KTU's 2019 scale is S 10, A+ 9, A 8.5, B+ 8, B 7.5, C+ 7, C 6.5, D 6 and P 5.5, with F, FE and I at 0.
- What CGPA do I need for first class with distinction at KTU?
- A CGPA of 8.0 or above, per the classification table under R6.16. First class needs a CGPA of 6.5 or above.
- Do activity points count in KTU CGPA?
- No. The 2 credits earned through activity points (R6.23) are mandatory for the degree but are not counted when the CGPA is calculated.
