AKTU SGPA, YGPA & CGPA Calculator
AKTU grade sheets show three averages, and students often mix them up. The SGPA is one semester; the YGPA combines the odd and even semester of an academic year, weighting each SGPA by that semester's credits; the CGPA does the same across all semesters and is only formally calculated at the end of the programme. All three come from clause 14 of the B.Tech ordinance, and all three are rounded to two decimals.
The grade scale is absolute: 90 and above earns A+ (10 points), 80–89 is A (9), and it steps down by one point per ten marks to C (6) for 50–59. Below that AKTU splits the range more finely — D (5) is 45–49 and E (4) is 40–44 — and anything under 40 is F. A semester only counts as passed if every subject is E or better and the SGPA is at least 5.0.

How AKTU calculates SGPA and CGPA
Rules from the AKTU B.Tech Ordinance 2018-19, Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University, Lucknow:
- SGPA (Si) = Σ(Ci × Gi) / ΣCi over the courses of the semester, expressed to two decimals (clause 14.4 a).
- YGPA = (SGPA odd × credits odd + SGPA even × credits even) / (credits odd + credits even) — the yearly figure on the grade sheet (clause 14.4 b).
- CGPA = Σ(Ci × Si) / ΣCi where Si is each semester's SGPA and Ci that semester's total credits, rounded to two decimals at the end of the last semester (clause 14.4 c, d).
- A semester is passed only with E or better in every subject and an SGPA of at least 5.0 (clause 10.3).
SGPA = Σ(Ci × GPi) ÷ ΣCi
CGPA = Σ(SGPAj × Cj) ÷ ΣCj
Percentage = (CGPA − 0.75) × 10

Worked example
The SGPA example loaded above has 4 courses (5.5 credits at B+, 4 credits at C, 5 credits at B and so on) worth 17.5 credits and 133 credit points, so the SGPA is 133 ÷ 17.5 = 7.60.
For the CGPA, the example semesters (7.6 on 17.5 credits; 7.82 on 19 credits; 8.1 on 22 credits; 7.35 on 21 credits) give Σ(SGPA × credits) = 614.13 over 79.5 credits, so the CGPA is 7.72, which is 69.70% under Percentage = (CGPA − 0.75) × 10.

Frequently asked questions
- How is YGPA calculated in AKTU?
- YGPA = (SGPA of the odd semester × its credits + SGPA of the even semester × its credits) ÷ total credits of both semesters, to two decimals (clause 14.4 b). Enter the two semesters in the CGPA tool to get it.
- What is the minimum SGPA to pass a semester at AKTU?
- 5.0, together with at least an E grade in every subject (clause 10.3).
- What grade point is a D grade in AKTU?
- 5 grade points, for 45 to below 50 marks. E (40–44) is worth 4 and F (below 40) is 0.
- What CGPA is first division at AKTU?
- A CGPA of 6.5 up to 7.5 is First Division; 7.5 or above with every subject passed in a single attempt (no grace marks, no gap) is First Division with Distinction; 5.0 to below 6.5 is Second Division.
