BPUT CGPA to Percentage Calculator
BPUT's regulations award only a CGPA — no marks, no class, no division — so employers and admission offices kept asking how to turn it into a percentage. The university answered in Notice No. BPUT/1717 of 16 May 2012, issued after the 18th Academic Council (7 April 2012) and the 18th Board of Management (17 April 2012): Equivalent Percentage of Mark = (CGPA − 0.50) × 10.
The notice partially modified an earlier notice of February 2012 and says the formula "may be used by the concerned organization/individual at their discretion". In practice it is the conversion BPUT graduates quote. A CGPA of 8.0 becomes 75%, 7.0 becomes 65%, and you need 6.5 to show 60%.
Type your CGPA below for the percentage, or use the reverse tool to find the CGPA that meets a percentage cut-off. Because BPUT awards no division, the calculator does not show one.
The notice converts the CGPA, not individual subject grades. BPUT's grade points run from O (10) down to D (5), and a failed paper (F) is worth 2, so the CGPA you convert already includes any failed papers at 2 points until they are cleared. If you only have your semester grade sheets, work out the CGPA with the SGPA and CGPA calculator first.
BPUT CGPA to percentage
Enter your CGPA as printed on the grade sheet.
(8 − 0.50) × 10 = 75.0000
Rule applied: Equivalent percentage = (CGPA − 0.50) × 10 (BPUT Notice No. 1717, 16 May 2012).
CGPA needed for a target percentage
Enter the percentage you need (for a job or admission cut-off).
Solving Equivalent percentage = (CGPA − 0.50) × 10 (BPUT Notice No. 1717, 16 May 2012) for the CGPA gives 6.5000. A CGPA of at least 6.50 reaches 60%.
The official BPUT CGPA to percentage rule
Rules from the BPUT Academic Regulations (clause 6), Biju Patnaik University of Technology:
- Credit point = grade point × credit for each course item; credit index = Σ credit points in the semester (clause 6.3).
- SGPA = credit index ÷ Σ credits of the semester; CGPA = Σ credit index of all semesters so far ÷ Σ credits of all those semesters.
- Grade D is the pass grade for theory; grade C is the pass grade for practical, sessional, project, seminar and viva-voce (clause 6.1).
- BPUT awards no class or division at semester or degree level (clause 7.0); a CGPA of 6.0 is required for the degree (clause 7.1 b).
Equivalent percentage = (CGPA − 0.50) × 10 (BPUT Notice No. 1717, 16 May 2012)
