RGPV SGPA & CGPA Calculator (CBGS)
RGPV's Choice Based Grading System, set out in clause 5.7 of Ordinance No. 4(C) for B.Tech students admitted from July 2017, uses ten-mark bands that start at 91 rather than 90: 91–100 is A+ (10), 81–90 is A (9), 71–80 is B+ (8), and so on. The lowest passing grade, D (Marginal, 4 points), covers 31–40 marks — lower than the usual 40% pass line — and 30 or below is F.
The SGPA is Σ ci·pi / Σ ci over the semester's subjects, and the CGPA weights each semester's SGPA by that semester's total credits (clause 5.8). MOOC credits are kept out of both. To be promoted beyond the fourth and sixth semesters you need a CGPA of 5.0 on the earlier years, and 5.0 is also the minimum for the degree.

How RGPV calculates SGPA and CGPA
Rules from the RGPV Ordinance No. 4(C), B.Tech (admitted July 2017 onwards, CBCS), Rajiv Gandhi Proudyogiki Vishwavidyalaya:
- SGPA = Σ ci·pi / Σ ci over the subjects of the semester (clause 5.8).
- CGPA = Σ SGj·NCj / Σ NCj, where SGj is the SGPA and NCj the total credits of semester j (clause 5.8).
- Credits earned through MOOCs are not included in SGPA or CGPA.
- Minimum grade D is needed in each subject and separately in the end-semester theory and practical; a CGPA of 5.0 is needed for the degree (clauses 4.2, 4.3). A 0.01 CGPA deficiency can be condoned in the cases listed in clause 6.

Worked example
The SGPA example loaded above has 7 courses (4 credits at A, 4 credits at B+, 3 credits at A+ and so on) worth 18 credits and 155 credit points, so the SGPA is 155 ÷ 18 = 8.61.
For the CGPA, the example semesters (7.83 on 18 credits; 7.21 on 22 credits; 8.05 on 24 credits) give Σ(SGPA × credits) = 492.76 over 64 credits, so the CGPA is 7.70, which is 77.00% under Percentage marks scored = CGPA obtained × 10.

Frequently asked questions
- What is the passing grade in RGPV?
- D (Marginal), for 31–40 marks, worth 4 grade points. You need at least D in each subject and separately in the end-semester theory and practical exams (clause 4.3).
- What CGPA is first division in RGPV?
- 6.5 up to 7.5 is First Division and 7.5 or above is First Division with Distinction (clause 7.1).
- Are MOOC credits counted in RGPV CGPA?
- No. Clause 5.8 says credits earned through MOOCs shall not be included in SGPA/CGPA calculations.
- What is the minimum CGPA for an RGPV degree?
- 5.0 (clause 4.2). A deficiency of 0.01 CGPA can be condoned under clause 6.2 if all subjects are passed.
