CUSAT GPA & CGPA Calculator (B.Tech)
CUSAT's B.Tech pass mark is 50, higher than most Indian universities. Under clause 12.1 of the regulations for 2024 admissions, 90–100 is S (Outstanding, 10), then A, B and C for each ten marks, D (Fair, 6) for 50 to below 60, and anything below 50 is F. The ranges include the lower number and exclude the upper, so exactly 80 is an A.
CUSAT calls the semester figure GPA rather than SGPA, and it is only calculated if you have passed every course registered that semester; the CGPA likewise needs every course up to that point cleared. The calculator follows that rule and will tell you the GPA is not awarded if you enter an F, while still showing the weighted average for your own planning.
The CGPA weights each semester's GPA by the credits obtained in that semester (clause 12.4). The results show your classification — 8 and above First Class with Distinction, 6.5 up to 8 First Class, 6 up to 6.5 Second Class — and the percentage under clause 12.5.

How CUSAT calculates GPA and CGPA
Rules from the CUSAT B.Tech Regulations (2024 admission onwards, Faculty of Technology), Cochin University of Science and Technology:
- GPA = (G1C1 + G2C2 + … + GnCn) / (C1 + C2 + … + Cn) for the semester (clause 12.3).
- GPA is calculated only for students who passed every registered course of the semester, and CGPA only for those who passed every course up to that semester.
- CGPA = (GP1C1 + GP2C2 + … + GPnCn) / (C1 + … + Cn), where GPn is the GPA and Cn the credits of semester n (clause 12.4).
- Credits of a Minor programme are not used in the B.Tech CGPA (clause 14.6).

Worked example
The GPA example loaded above has 7 courses (4 credits at A, 4 credits at B, 3 credits at S and so on) worth 20 credits and 171 credit points, so the GPA is 171 ÷ 20 = 8.55.
For the CGPA, the example semesters (8.3 on 20 credits; 7.75 on 22 credits; 8.1 on 21 credits) give Σ(GPA × credits) = 506.6 over 63 credits, so the CGPA is 8.04, which is 75.40% under Percentage marks = (CGPA − 0.5) × 10.

Frequently asked questions
- What is the pass mark in CUSAT B.Tech?
- 50%. Grade D (6 points) covers 50 to below 60, and below 50 is F under clause 12.1.
- Why is my CUSAT GPA not calculated?
- Clause 12.3 says the GPA for a semester is calculated only for students who have passed all the registered courses of that semester; the same applies to the CGPA.
- What CGPA is first class with distinction at CUSAT?
- 8 and above. 6.5 to below 8 is First Class and 6 to below 6.5 is Second Class (clause 12.4).
- Are minor programme credits counted in CUSAT CGPA?
- No. Clause 14.6 says the credits earned for a Minor are not considered in the B.Tech CGPA.
