CUSAT CGPA to Percentage Calculator
The CUSAT B.Tech regulations (2024 admission onwards) end their grading section with a one-line rule, clause 12.5: "Percentage marks = (CGPA − 0.5) × 10." Subtracting half a point before multiplying means a CUSAT percentage is always five points below the CGPA × 10 figure — a CGPA of 8.2 is 77%, not 82%.
Because the pass mark is 50 and the lowest pass grade is worth 6, the formula keeps the percentage roughly in line with the marks bands: a CGPA of 6.0, the lowest Second Class, converts to 55%. First Class starts at CGPA 6.5, or 60%, and First Class with Distinction at CGPA 8, or 75%.

The rule sits in clause 12.5, directly after the classification table, in the B.Tech regulations for 2024 admissions cited below. CUSAT calculates a CGPA only when every course up to that semester has been passed, so the percentage can only be quoted once there are no pending failures.

The official CUSAT CGPA to percentage rule
Rules from the CUSAT B.Tech Regulations (2024 admission onwards, Faculty of Technology), Cochin University of Science and Technology:
- GPA = (G1C1 + G2C2 + … + GnCn) / (C1 + C2 + … + Cn) for the semester (clause 12.3).
- GPA is calculated only for students who passed every registered course of the semester, and CGPA only for those who passed every course up to that semester.
- CGPA = (GP1C1 + GP2C2 + … + GPnCn) / (C1 + … + Cn), where GPn is the GPA and Cn the credits of semester n (clause 12.4).
- Credits of a Minor programme are not used in the B.Tech CGPA (clause 14.6).

Worked example
For a CGPA of 8.2: (8.2 − 0.5) × 10 = 77.00%.
Going the other way, a target of 70% needs a CGPA of 7.5000, so you need at least 7.50 on your grade sheet.
