NIT Trichy GPA & CGPA Calculator
NIT Trichy grades on a relative scale. Under B.10 of the B.Tech Regulations 2017, the Performance Analysis Committee looks at each course's results and fixes the mark ranges for S (10), A (9), B (8), C (7), D (6) and E (5); the S grade is normally capped at 10% of the class, and the passing minimum is the higher of 35% or half the class average. Students who fail and later pass through reassessment receive E, and those who complete the formative-assessment route receive R — both worth 5.
There is also FF, worth 2, given when the formative assessment is not completed in the maximum period through negligence. Unlike most failing grades it has grade points, stays on the grade card permanently and is used in the CGPA.
The session GPA is Σ(Ci × GPi) / ΣCi, but it is only calculated for students who have passed every course registered that session, and the CGPA only for those who have passed everything so far (B.16). The calculator applies that rule and shows the class under B.18.

How NIT Trichy calculates GPA and CGPA
Rules from the NIT Tiruchirappalli B.Tech Regulations 2017, National Institute of Technology Tiruchirappalli:
- Letter grades are relative: the Performance Analysis Committee fixes the mark ranges for each course; the passing minimum is the higher of 35% and half the class average (B.9, B.10).
- GPA for a session = Σ(Ci × GPi) / ΣCi, computed only for students who passed all registered courses of that session; CGPA = Σ(Ci × GPi) / ΣCi over all N courses of the programme (B.16).
- E (after reassessment) and R (after formative assessment) both carry 5, the minimum grade point for completing a course. FF carries 2 and stays on the grade card and in the CGPA.
- A B.Tech (Honours) needs a CGPA of 8.5 and the conditions in B.4.5.3.

Worked example
The GPA example loaded above has 7 courses (4 credits at A, 4 credits at B, 3 credits at S and so on) worth 21 credits and 182 credit points, so the GPA is 182 ÷ 21 = 8.67.
For the CGPA, the example semesters (8.62 on 21 credits; 8.35 on 23 credits; 8.9 on 22 credits) give Σ(GPA × credits) = 568.87 over 66 credits, so the CGPA is 8.62, which is 86.20% under Average percentage = CGPA × 10.
