CBSE CGPA to Percentage Calculator (9.5)
The 9.5 multiplier comes from CBSE Circular No. 24 of 28 May 2010, issued when the Board introduced grading at the secondary level. It says an indicative equivalence of grade point and percentage can be computed as: subject-wise indicative percentage = 9.5 × GP of the subject, and overall indicative percentage = 9.5 × CGPA. A CGPA of 8.6 on a Class X grade sheet therefore corresponds to 81.7%, and a perfect 10 to 95%.
The grade points behind that CGPA are set in Circular No. 40 of 29 September 2009: A1 for 91–100 is 10, A2 for 81–90 is 9, and so on down to D for 33–40 at 4; E1 and E2 are not qualifying grades and carry no grade point. The CGPA printed on the statement excludes the additional sixth subject, so the first tool below averages the grade points of your five main subjects.
One caution for current students: CBSE's notice of 30 November 2023 states that the Board does not calculate, declare or inform the percentage of marks and that any calculation may be done by the admitting institution or employer. The 9.5 rule is for the grade sheets that show a CGPA.

The official CBSE CGPA to percentage rule
Rules from the CBSE Circular No. 40/2009 (grading) and Circular No. 24/2010 (indicative percentage), Central Board of Secondary Education:
- Marks are converted to grades on fixed ranges: A1 91–100 (10), A2 81–90 (9), B1 71–80 (8), B2 61–70 (7), C1 51–60 (6), C2 41–50 (5), D 33–40 (4), E1 21–32 and E2 20 and below (Circular 40/2009).
- The CGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average) on the Class X Statement of Subject-wise Performance excludes the additional 6th subject (Circular 24/2010).
- Indicative percentage: subject-wise = 9.5 × GP of the subject; overall = 9.5 × CGPA (Circular 24/2010).
- CBSE's notice of 30.11.2023 states that the Board does not calculate, declare or inform the percentage of marks; if needed, it may be calculated by the admitting institution or employer.

Worked example
With the five example grades (A1, A2, A1, B1, A2) the grade points add up to 46, so the CGPA is 46 ÷ 5 = 9.2 and the indicative percentage is 9.5 × 9.2 = 87.40%.
For a CGPA of 8.6: 9.5 × 8.6 = 81.70%.
